Protecting Your Family From Humanistic Philosophy

What is Secular Humanism?

Secular humanism excludes God. It makes man his own highest authority. It teaches that man's pleasure or happiness is the highest good. Moral standards are relative in humanism and give way to situational ethics.

The philosophy of humanism began with Satan, when he said in his heart, "...I will be like the most High." It was the philosophy which Satan used to trick Eve: "...And ye shall be as gods..." Humanists are identified by Paul's those "who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator..." Humanism is being promoted in our day through false religions, cults, and Godless philosophies.

Magazines which encourage sexual freedom without the responsibility of marriage are promoting humanism. Advertising which encourages people to live only for the present is built on humanistic philosophy. Government programs which promise to sold social evils without God are humanistic programs.

False Teaching of Humanism

1. All children are born good. They are only corrupted by outside influences. "By one man [Adam] sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for all have sinned" (Rom. 5:12).
2. All moral standards are relative. People must be free to enjoy whatever will make them feel happy. "...the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for the sinners, for the unholy and profane..." (1 Tim. 1:9-10)

3. The human race has simply evolved from lower forms of animals. "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him..." (Gen. 1:27)

Laws Which are Based on Humanism

1. Laws protecting pornography, sodomy, drug abuse, and other impurity. Humanistic reasoning: It is wrong for the government to legislate morality.

2. Laws allowing abortion. Humanistic reasoning: When there is an overpopulation of any species, it is not wrong to reduce its number.

3. Laws prohibiting all spanking. Humanistic reasoning: Spanking teaches them to become violent.

Four Ways to Protect Your Family from Humanistic Philosophies

1. Explain what "humanistic" philosophies are.
2. Teach your family how to detect them.
3. Develop a godly contempt for them.
4. Build a hedge of prayer around each one in your family.
