Priorities and Wise Commitments

Many of today's young women want it all now. They want a husband and children and an education and career. Consequently, they may unwisely jeopardize their relationship with their husbands and children (to say nothing about God) to have their way. More than once I have learned of a young mother who is determined to overcome any financial or child care obstacle in order to obtain career goals. Certainly at best, she is not being prudent.

Prudent is a good old-fashioned word which means "wise." As there are only so many hours in a day, young wives and mothers must decide prudently how to use them. They could benefit from Paul's warning to the Christians in Ephesians to be careful with their time.

"Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men, but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is." Ephesians 5:15-17
