How to Make Applesauce

  • Don't use Red Delicious apples for applesauce. They are tasteless and don't break down.
  • Add sugar after cooking the apples. Taste the applesauce first before adding sugar. You may find that you don't need as much sugar.
  • Peel the apples if you plan on using non-organic apples.
  • You can use a potato masher when you crush the apples. You may even consider an electric mixer. Your goal is to make them smooth, not lumpy.
  • Check your cookbook for a recipe, then adjust to your liking.
