What does the Bible say about self-seeking?

This clipart was posted on a blog I regularly read. I hope that it speaks to you.

Self-seeking - taking advantage of opportunities without regard for the consequences for others. The act or practice of selfishly advancing one's own ends.

If you describe someone as self-seeking, they are usually interested only in doing things which give them an advantage over other people. It often has to do with the things of this world.

The Bible says:

"Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever." 1 John 15-17

Unless there is victory over the world, which is a work that has begun in the heart, that person does not have hold of the true Anchor...the Lord Jesus Christ.

"Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure
and stedfast, and which entereth into that
within the veil;" Hebrews 6:19
